Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO)
A Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) is a complete blockage of a coronary artery lasting for at least three months. This condition can reduce blood flow to the heart, leading to chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue. In some cases, the body forms collateral blood vessels to bypass the blockage, reducing symptoms. Treatment may include medication, PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention), or CABG (coronary artery bypass grafting) surgery.
What Is It?
1) A complete (100%) blockage of a coronary artery.
2) Develops over months and can cause symptoms like chest pain, fatigue, or dizziness.
3) Some patients may be asymptomatic due to collateral circulation.
